Peter Spiegelman is an accomplished American author, best known for his crime fiction, mystery, suspense, and thriller novels. Born in 1958 in New York City, Spiegelman was raised in Forest Hills, Queens, and spent some time living in Los Angeles. As a child, he demonstrated a creative flair by inventing his own superheroes and producing homemade comic books.
Before devoting himself to writing, Spiegelman enjoyed a successful twenty-year career in the financial services and software industries. He retired in 2001 to focus on his passion for storytelling. Spiegelman's professional background, particularly his experience in the world of finance, would later provide inspiration for his writing, especially in the development of his acclaimed John March series.
Spiegelman has written five novels, including the Shamus Award-winning Dr. Knox, Thick as Thieves, and the John March trilogy: Black Maps, Death's Little Helpers, and Red Cat. The first book in the John March series, Black Maps, won the Shamus Award in 2004. March, a Manhattan-based private investigator and former Wall Street executive, was created by Spiegelman during his daily commute between Ridgefield and White Plains, New York.
In addition to his novels, Spiegelman has contributed short fiction to various anthologies, such as Dublin Noir, Hardboiled Brooklyn, The Darker Mask, and Wall Street Noir. He has also edited a crime fiction anthology, Wall Street Noir. A graduate of Vassar College with an English major, Spiegelman currently resides in Connecticut with his family.
