Peter Stamm

Peter Stamm is a Swiss author and journalist known for his precise, minimalist prose and psychological depth. Born in Weinfelden, Thurgau, he initially worked as an accountant before pursuing studies in English literature, psychology, and psychopathology at the University of Zurich. His literary career began in the 1990s after living abroad in New York, Paris, and Scandinavia, eventually settling in Zurich as a freelance writer.

Stamm's works often explore themes of alienation, identity, and the fragility of human relationships. He gained international recognition with novels such as "Agnes" and "Unformed Landscape," which showcase his restrained yet evocative style. As a journalist, he contributed to prominent Swiss publications like the Neue Zürcher Zeitung and Die Weltwoche. Since 1997, he has been part of the editorial team for the literary magazine "Entwürfe für Literatur." Stamm currently resides in Winterthur, where he continues to write fiction and essays.
