Peter Steiner is a renowned author, artist, and cartoonist, best known for his New Yorker cartoons and the Louis Morgon mystery series. Steiner was born in Cincinnati and grew up with a strong interest in literature, languages, and the arts. He pursued his passions by attending the University of Miami and the Free University of Berlin, and later served in the U.S. Army in Germany. Steiner then went on to obtain a Ph.D. in German literature and taught at Dickinson College for eight years.
In the late 1990s, Steiner decided to leave teaching and focus on his artistic pursuits. He became a successful cartoonist, creating notable works such as the famous New Yorker cartoon, "On the internet nobody knows you're a dog," which remains the magazine's most reproduced cartoon. In addition to his cartooning career, Steiner began writing novels for his own enjoyment, eventually leading to the publication of his first novel, A French Country Murder, in 2003. This marked the beginning of the Louis Morgon series, which now includes five books, with the latest, The Good Cop, published in 2019. Steiner's personal experiences and time spent in France have greatly influenced the settings and themes of his novels, offering readers an engaging mix of mystery and cultural immersion.
