Peter Tremayne

Peter Berresford Ellis is a prolific British author who has written under the pen names Peter Tremayne and Peter MacAlan. Born on March 10, 1943, Ellis has established himself as a historian, literary biographer, and novelist, with over ninety books published to date. His non-fiction works have earned him recognition as an authority on Celtic history and culture.

As Peter Tremayne, Ellis is best known for his international bestselling Sister Fidelma mystery series. The series features a 7th century Irish religieuse named Fidelma of Cashel, and has been translated into twenty-five languages. Ellis's expertise in Celtic history and culture is evident in the series, which has been praised for its historical accuracy and engaging storytelling.

In addition to his work as Peter Tremayne, Ellis has also written under the name Peter MacAlan. From 1983 until 1993, he wrote adventure-thrillers under this pseudonym. Ellis began his career as a junior reporter, eventually becoming a deputy editor and editor of a trade journal. He became a full-time writer in 1975 and has since written around one hundred books, one hundred short stories, pamphlets, academic papers, and columns. His writing covers a range of genres, including historical mysteries, horror novels, and adventure-thrillers.
