Peter Watts

Peter Watts is a renowned Canadian science fiction author, who is best known for his work in the subgenre of hard science fiction. Watts was born in Canada and pursued his undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the University of Guelph, Ontario, and the University of British Columbia, where he earned his BSC, MSC, and PhD in the fields of marine mammal biology and resource ecology. According to his official autobiography, Watts spent two decades studying and working in marine mammal research before transitioning to a career in writing.

Watts began his writing career in the 1990s and gained recognition for his first novel, "Starfish," which was published in 1999. He is best known for writing the Rifters series and the Firefall series, which showcase his ability to blend scientific concepts with compelling storytelling. Watts's work is characterized by his extensive technical knowledge, which is evident in the detailed biographies and scientific concepts he includes in his novels.
