Phillip Schott is a German-born Canadian author whose work spans nonfiction, fiction, and mystery genres. His debut book, "The Accidental Veterinarian" (2019), a humorous collection of veterinary anecdotes, became a Canadian bestseller and was translated into five languages. He followed this success with two sequels: "How To Examine a Wolverine" (2021) and "The Battle Cry of the Siamese Kitten" (2023). Schott also published his first novel, "The Willow Wren" (2021), and launched a cozy mystery series featuring veterinarian-detective Dr. Peter Bannerman, including "Fifty-Four Pigs" (2022), "Six Ostriches" (2023), and "Eleven Huskies" (2024).
Born in Germany in 1965, Schott immigrated to Canada with his family as a child, growing up in Saskatoon while maintaining ties to his homeland through regular visits. After studying biology and veterinary medicine at the University of Saskatchewan, he settled in Winnipeg, where he has practiced small animal medicine since 1990. His writing career began with travel and veterinary blogs before transitioning to books. Schott's works often draw from his professional experiences, blending wit with insight into animal behavior and human nature.
When not writing or practicing veterinary medicine, Schott enjoys outdoor pursuits, particularly long-distance walking. He has completed several renowned trails, including Scotland's West Highland Way and Peru's Inca Trail. He lives in Winnipeg with his wife, two children, and multiple pets in a historic riverside home. His upcoming projects include another installment in his mystery series, "Three Bengal Kittens," continuing his literary exploration of veterinary life through fiction and nonfiction.
