R.L. LaFevers, also known as Robin Lorraine, grew up surrounded by shelves of old dusty books and a passel of brothers. From a young age, she was known for making up things that were not there, a trait that proved she was destined to be a fiction writer. LaFevers is the author of more than fourteen books for young readers, including the popular Theodosia series and the Nathaniel Fludd, Beastologist series.\n \n LaFevers' first book, Theodosia and the Serpents of Chaos, was published by Houghton Mifflin in 2007. The book received many positive reviews and was featured as a Junior Library Guild selection, a Booksense Summer Pick, and it was also nominated for the Malice Domestic's Agatha Award. The success of this series led to the publication of the Nathaniel Fludd, Beastologist series. Kirkus describes the first book in the series, Nathaniel Fludd, Beastologist: Flight of the Phoenix, as "an exciting tale." The sequel, Nathaniel Fludd, Beastologist: The Basilisk's Lair, was published in 2010.
LaFevers currently resides in Southern California with her family. She spends most of her time daydreaming and coming up with stories. She also enjoys wallowing in old forgotten texts. Although she does not own any exotic pets, she has raccoons that visit her back porch, coyotes that howl at her window, and hawks that soar high overhead. Her writing combines her love for imagination and forgotten texts to create exciting and engaging stories for young readers.
