Rachael Allen is an accomplished American author of young adult books, who holds a PhD in neuroscience. During the day, she works as a scientist, studying the eye's role in diagnosing diseases and tracking disease progression in Alzheimer’s, diabetes, and brain injury. However, her passion for writing is just as strong as her dedication to science. She spends her nights writing young adult novels, creating stories that resonate with her readers.
Rachael's debut young adult novel, 17 First Kisses, was published by Harper Teen in 2014, and she has since written several more novels for young readers. Her work has been recognized with the 2019 Georgia Young Adult Author of the Year award, and her book A Taxonomy of Love was a Junior Library Guild Selection and a 2018 Book All Young Georgians Should Read. Rachael's writing is influenced by her love of stories that evoke strong emotions and make her feel as though she has been transported into another person's experiences.
Beyond her work as an author and scientist, Rachael is a dedicated mother and adventurer. She enjoys spending time with her husband, two children, and two sled dogs, exploring the world and trying new things. She is also known for her love of homemade peach ice cream, football, and reading about strong female protagonists, STEM, rebellion, and neurodegenerative diseases.
