Rachel Cohn is a bestselling American author, born in Silver Spring, Maryland in 1968. She grew up in the D.C. area and developed a love for reading and writing at a young age. Cohn was particularly inspired by authors such as Judy Blume, E.L. Konigsburg, and Ellen Conford. After graduating from Barnard College with a B.A. in Political Science, she decided to pursue a career in writing instead of journalism, as she had originally planned.
Cohn is known for her young adult novels and has frequently collaborated with David Levithan. When she's not writing, Cohn can be found reading, organizing her music collection, or searching for the perfect cappuccino. She currently resides in New York City, where she continues to write and draw inspiration from her surroundings.
In an interview, Cohn mentioned that she often gets asked how she is able to write from the perspective of a teenager. She explained that she tries not to think about it too much and instead taps into her own teenage feelings. This ability to relate to teenagers is evident in her writing, as many young adult readers have expressed how much they relate to her characters.
Cohn's love for reading and writing can be traced back to her childhood, where she was inspired by her favorite authors. From her adolescent desire to be like Deenie in Judy Blume's novel to her current career as a young adult novelist, Cohn has always been drawn to storytelling. Her ability to channel her own teenage self and convey those feelings through her writing has made her a beloved author in the young adult genre.
