Rae Ellen Lee

Rae Ellen Lee is an author known for her memoirs and novels that blend humor, adventure, and unconventional life experiences. Her debut memoir, "If The Shoe Fits" (later reissued as "I Only Cuss When I'm Sailing"), chronicles her transition from mountain life to living aboard a sailboat with her husband. Her first novel, "The Bluebird House," combines paranormal elements, historical fiction, and romance, set in a Montana brothel she once renovated. Another memoir, "My Next Husband Will Be Normal," humorously recounts her time in the U.S. Virgin Islands amid her husband's gender transition.

Lee's writing career is rooted in her diverse background, which includes service with the U.S. State Department, a degree in landscape architecture, and years with the U.S. Forest Service. Her works often reflect her love for the outdoors and her knack for finding humor in life's unexpected turns. She has also preserved oral history through "Powder Monkey Tales," a collection of stories from her father, a former dynamite expert in Idaho's logging industry. One of these tales was featured in the Idaho Centennial Play.

Currently residing in Bellingham, Washington, Lee continues to write while working on a novel about women in a sawmill and an illustrated humor book, "A Field Guide to Geezers." An avid hiker and amateur naturalist, she enjoys sketching and spending time with her dog, Sudsie, and her Montana granddaughter. Her writing remains characterized by wit, warmth, and a deep appreciation for the quirks of human nature.
