Rajasree Variyar

Rajasree Variyar is an author whose debut novel, "The Daughters of Madurai," was shortlisted for Hachette UK's Mo Siewcharran Prize. Born in Bangalore, India, she moved to Australia as an infant and grew up in Sydney before relocating to London, where she balances writing with a career in digital insurance product development. Variyar holds degrees in Arts, Commerce, and Psychology, followed by an MA in Creative Writing from the University of East Anglia in 2020. Her short fiction has earned recognition, including second prize in the Shooter Literary Magazine competition and a longlisting for the Brick Lane Bookshop short story award.

Variyar's writing reflects her multicultural upbringing and academic diversity, drawing from her studies in classical archaeology, international relations, and Indonesian. Her debut novel explores themes of family and identity, rooted in her Indian heritage. An avid traveler and marathon runner, she draws inspiration from global experiences while crafting her stories. Variyar is currently working on her second novel while residing in London with her family and Irish Doodle.
