Ralph G. Martin

Ralph G. Martin was an American journalist and bestselling author known for his biographies of prominent historical figures. His most celebrated work, "Jennie," a two-volume study of Winston Churchill's mother, Lady Randolph Churchill, became a major success upon its release in 1969 and 1971. Martin also gained recognition for his books on British royalty, including "The Woman He Loved" (1974), which chronicled the romance between Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson, and "Charles & Diana" (1985), detailing the marriage of Prince Charles and Princess Diana. Additionally, he explored the Kennedy family legacy in "A Hero for Our Time" (1983) and "Seeds of Destruction" (1995), focusing on John F. Kennedy and Joseph P. Kennedy Sr., respectively.

Born in Chicago and raised in Brooklyn, Martin graduated with a journalism degree from the University of Missouri in 1941. He began his career as a reporter before serving as a combat correspondent during World War II for publications like "Stars and Stripes" and "Yank." After the war, he held editorial positions at "Newsweek," "The New Republic," and "House Beautiful."
