Reavis Z. Wortham is an accomplished American author, best known for his Red River Series of mystery novels. His work is often compared to the lawmen frequently featured in Elmore Leonard's books, highlighting Wortham's ability to create compelling and authentic characters within the mystery genre.
Born in Paris, Texas, Wortham spent his formative years in Dallas, but his heart belonged to the 120-mile stretch between the two cities, where he would spend weekends on his grandparents' farm in Chicota, Texas. This rural landscape would later become the inspiration for the fictional setting of The Rock Hole and The Red River Mystery Series.
Wortham's writing career took off after his retirement in 2011, and he has since published numerous critically acclaimed novels. His debut novel, The Rock Hole, was hailed as an "unpretentious gem" by Kirkus Reviews and listed as one of their Top 12 Mysteries of 2011. True West Magazine included Dark Places as one of 2015’s Top 12 Modern Westerns. His new thriller series, Hawke's Prey, was released in June 2017, introducing readers to a complex and dedicated lawman named Sonny Hawke.
In addition to his Red River Series and the Hawke's Prey series, Wortham has also penned Doreen's 24 HR Eat Gas Now Café. He is a prolific writer with more than 2,500 newspaper and magazine articles bearing his byline. Wortham is a member of several professional organizations, including Mystery Writers of America, the Writers' League of Texas, International Association of Crime Writers (North American Branch), and International Thriller Writers. He currently resides in northeast Texas with his wife, Shana.
