Rick Reed is an accomplished American author, best known for his thriller, suspense, crime fiction, detective fiction, and mystery novels. He is particularly famous for his Jack Murphy series of novels, which are somewhat based on his own experiences as a Detective Sergeant in the Violent Crime/Homicide Unit. Reed started his writing career with the true-crime novel called Blood Trail in 2004, and later shifted his focus towards writing fiction in 2009. He has since published a total of nine thriller novels in the Jack Murphy series, with the ninth novel expected to be released in 2020. Reed has plans to add several more titles to this series in the coming years.\n \n Reed is a retired Homicide detective from Evansville, Indiana, where he served as a Detective Sergeant with the Indiana Police Department. His writing career began in 2004 with the true crime book, Blood Trail, which tells the story of his investigation and capture of serial killer, Joseph Weldon Brown. Reed's career with the Evansville Police Department started to go awry when he was promoted to Sergeant and put in charge of Internal Affairs. Despite these challenges, Reed persevered and began writing fiction in 2009, focusing on police thrillers that are based on his own experiences.\n \n Reed's books have been translated and/or sold in many countries and are available as eBooks, paperbacks, and audio books. His Jack Murphy series includes The Cruelest Cut, The Coldest Fear, The Deepest Wound, The Highest Stakes, The Darkest Night, The Slowest Death, Deadliest Sins, and The Cleanest Kill. The ninth novel in the series, The Fiercest Enemy, was released in February 2020. Reed's books can be read as stand-alone novels and are published by Kensington Publishing.
