Rion Amilcar Scott is a highly acclaimed author, best known for his short story collections. His work has received significant recognition, including the 2017 PEN/Bingham Prize for Debut Fiction and the 2017 Hillsdale Award from the Fellowship of Southern Writers. These accolades were awarded for his debut story collection, "Insurrections," which was published by the University Press of Kentucky in 2016.
Scott's parents are originally from Trinidad, but they moved to the United States for their studies at Howard University. They have since settled in the country, and raised Scott as an American citizen. He completed his graduation from the George Mason University. Currently, Scott is employed at the Bowie State University as a teacher of English. His work has been featured in numerous journals, including The Rumpus, The Toast, Melville House & Confrontation, Crab Orchard Review, Akashic Books, The Kenyon Review, Fiction International, PANK, and The Washington City Paper.
In addition to "Insurrections," Scott has also published another story collection, "The World Doesn't Require You," which was released by Norton/Liveright in August 2019. Scott's writing has been praised for its unique perspective and insightful commentary on various social and cultural issues. He currently resides in Annapolis, MD with his wife and two sons.
