Rita Woods is a literary fiction author who was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. From a young age, she developed a love for writing, often creating melodramatic dystopian tales. However, her parents encouraged her to pursue a more traditional career path, leading her to earn a BS in Microbiology from Purdue University and graduate from Howard University College of Medicine. After completing her training at Creighton University, she began her medical practice in Chicago, where she currently serves as Medical Director of a Wellness Center that provides care for members of one of the largest Trade Unions in the nation.
Despite her busy career, Woods has always managed to find time for her passion for writing. She is a confessed lover of fantasy, magic, and history, and combines all of these loves in her work. Her debut novel, "Remembrance," has established her as a talented literary fiction author. Woods currently lives in suburban Chicago with her husband and their cats, where she also serves as Trustee on her local library board. In addition to her love for writing, she enjoys books, history, coffee, and traveling.
Woods' upbringing in Detroit had a significant impact on her, and she still has a deep affection for the city, even though she has lived in Chicago for many years. She is the mother of two college-age children and the grandmother of one granddaughter. Woods dreams of one day being able to write in a tiny cabin in the woods, surrounded by mystery and mist. Despite her many responsibilities, she continues to write, bringing her unique perspective and love for fantasy, magic, and history to life on the page.
