Robert Frost

Robert Frost was one of America's most celebrated 20th-century poets, renowned for his vivid depictions of rural New England life and his mastery of traditional poetic forms. His notable works include "A Boy's Will," "North of Boston," "Mending Wall," "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening," and "The Road Not Taken," the latter becoming one of the most widely recognized poems in American literature. Frost received four Pulitzer Prizes for Poetry—in 1924, 1931, 1937, and 1943—solidifying his legacy as a defining voice in modern poetry.

Frost's writing was characterized by its plainspoken yet profound style, blending pastoral imagery with philosophical depth. After moving to England in 1912, he published his first two collections, which garnered immediate acclaim. Upon returning to the United States, he settled in New Hampshire and Vermont, where his poetry continued to reflect the landscapes and rhythms of rural life. A staunch advocate of traditional rhyme and meter, Frost famously dismissed free verse, comparing it to "playing tennis with the net down."

Beyond his literary achievements, Frost served as Consultant in Poetry to the Library of Congress (later known as Poet Laureate) from 1958 to 1959. His recitation of "The Gift Outright" at John F. Kennedy's 1961 inauguration further cemented his status as a national literary figure. Though he attended Dartmouth College and Harvard University, Frost never completed a degree, instead dedicating his life to poetry. His works remain enduring classics, celebrated for their craftsmanship and timeless themes.
