Robert Silverberg

Robert Silverberg is an accomplished American author, well-known for his contributions to science fiction and fantasy. He has been a professional writer since 1955 and has built an impressive reputation in the industry. Silverberg has won the Hugo Award five times and the Nebula Award five times, a testament to his storytelling prowess. His works have been translated into forty different languages, showcasing his global appeal.

In 1956, Silverberg won his first Hugo Award for Best New Writer, marking the beginning of a successful career. He was also known for his remarkable writing speed, with reports indicating that he wrote and sold at least 50,000 words per week in 1965. His prolific output includes contemporary classics such as "Dying Inside," "Downward to the Earth," and "Lord Valentine’s Castle," as well as "At Winter’s End."

Silverberg has served as the president of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, further solidifying his status in the genre. In 2004, he was presented with the Grand Master Award by the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, making him one of twenty-nine writers to receive this prestigious distinction. Some of his most renowned works include "NIGHTWINGS," "DYING INSIDE," "THE BOOK OF SKULLS," and the "Majipoor Cycle" series. His collected short stories, spanning nearly sixty years of his career, have been published in nine volumes by Subterranean Press. His most recent book, "TALES OF MAJIPOOR" (2013), offers new stories set in the giant world made famous in "LORD VALENTINE'S CASTLE." Silverberg, along with his wife Karen Haber and their cats, resides in the San Francisco Bay Area.
