Robin Hobb is the pen name of Margaret Astrid Lindholm Ogden, a best-selling American author who specializes in fantasy novels. She also has experience writing science fiction. Hobb is most well-known for her series The Realm of the Elderlings, which is comprised of several smaller series. Before using the Robin Hobb pseudonym, she wrote under the name Megan Lindholm from 1983 to 1992.
Hobb was born in Oakland, California, but spent most of her formative years in Fairbanks, Alaska. It was there that she developed a deep appreciation for the wilderness and forest living. At the age of nine, Hobb and her family moved to Alaska to live a self-sufficient lifestyle, which included creating a large garden and building a meat store in their front yard. This meat store became Hobb's first personal space to work on her writing during the summer months when it was not in use.
Robin Hobb has written three successful fantasy trilogies, including The Farseer Trilogy, The Liveship Traders Trilogy, and The Tawny Man Trilogy. She is currently working on a new series called Shaman's Crossing. Hobb has been a professional writer for over 30 years and has won numerous awards for her work, including the Hugo Award, the Nebula Award, and the Isaac Asimov's Science Fiction Readers' Award. In addition to writing, Hobb enjoys gardening, mushrooming, and beachcombing. She lives in Tacoma, Washington, with her husband Fred and their three grown children and one teenager, as well as three grandchildren. She also writes under the name Megan Lindholm, and works published under that name have been finalists for several prestigious awards.
