Ronald H. Balson is an accomplished American author, trial attorney, and educator, best known for his historical fiction novels. He has written a series of books featuring Liam Taggart and Catherine Lockhart as the main characters. Balson is a practicing attorney with the firm of Stone, Pogrund & Korey in Chicago and has been practicing for over 40 years. His legal practice has taken him to courts all across the United States and Canada, as well as deposition testimony in various European and Asian countries.
Balson's trips to Poland, while handling a commercial dispute concerning telephone services, inspired his first novel, Once We Were Brothers. His love for history and the Middle East motivated him to write his second novel, Saving Sophie. Balson's legal practice and travels have significantly influenced his writing career. He has become a finalist for the prestigious Harper Lee Award in 2014 in the category of the best Legal Fiction and was also nominated for the Italian Literature's Premio Bancarella Award in the same year.
Balson is a respected citizen of the Chicago city and was invited as an honoree at the Carl Sandburg Award dinner of the Public Library Foundation of Chicago. He was a frequent lecturer during trial advocacy seminars and in the certification course of the federal bar. Before his law career, Balson used to work as an adjunct business law professor at the Chicago University's Graduate Business School.
