Rudy Ruiz

Rudy Ruiz is a bestselling and award-winning literary fiction novelist, known for his unique perspective on Latino culture, bilingual and bicultural experiences, and immigration and acculturation issues. Born and raised on the US-Mexico border, Ruiz has a deep connection to the communities he writes about, which is evident in the authenticity and richness of his storytelling.

Ruiz's debut novel, "The Resurrection of Fulgencio Ramirez," was released in 2020 by Blackstone Publishing and quickly became a critically acclaimed success. It won two Gold Medals at the International Latino Book Awards, including for Best Latino-Focused Fiction Book and Best Audio Book. The novel was also a Finalist for the Western Writers of America Silver Spur Award for Best Contemporary Novel.

In addition to his novels, Ruiz has also published a short story collection titled "Seven for the Revolution," which won four International Latino Book Awards. He has received the Gulf Coast Prize in Fiction in 2017, and his short stories have appeared in various publications such as Notre Dame Review, The Ninth Letter, Gulf Coast, and New Texas. His most recent novel, "Valley of Shadows," was released in September 2022 and received a starred review from ALA Booklist. It was also named one of the Best Horror Novels of the year by LitHub’s CrimeReads and received the prestigious Jesse H. Jones Award for Best Book of Fiction.

Ruiz earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees at Harvard and currently resides in San Antonio with his wife and children. His work continues to explore the complexities of Latino culture and identity, providing readers with a deeper understanding of the borderlands and the people who call it home.
