Russell Banks

Russell Banks is a highly accomplished author with a diverse body of work that includes fiction, nonfiction, short stories, and poetry. His writing has received international acclaim and has been translated into twenty languages. Banks has also been recognized for his contributions to literature with numerous awards and prizes, and he has been a member of the International Parliament of Writers and the American Academy of Arts and Letters.

Banks' fiction works have received significant attention and have often focused on seismic events in US history. His novel "Cloudsplitter" is a notable example, as it provides a fictionalized account of the journey of John Brown. Two of his other novels, "The Sweet Hereafter" and "Affliction," have been adapted into award-winning films.

In addition to his fiction works, Banks has also written non-fiction, including "Dreaming up America." He has served as the President of the International Parliament of Writers and was also the New York State Author. Banks has lived in upstate New York, and his forthcoming novel, "The Reserve," was published in early 2008.
