Russell Thorndike was a British author and actor, who was born in the late 1800s. He is best known for his series of novels featuring the character of Doctor Syn, which were set in Romney Marsh. While he may not be as well-known as his sister, the actress Dame Sybil Thorndike, Russell Thorndike was just as versatile and talented in his own right.
After serving in World War I, Thorndike decided to devote himself to writing. His first love was for the pen, and he poured his energy and creativity into his work. In addition to the Doctor Syn series, Thorndike also wrote a number of other novels, as well as plays and screenplays.
The Doctor Syn series was particularly successful, and was adapted into a number of different forms of media. In 1937, a movie based on the series was released, followed by a 1962 movie and a 1963 movie. The series was also featured in episodes of the Magical World of Disney. Despite the success of the Doctor Syn series, however, Thorndike remained a humble and dedicated writer, always striving to improve his craft and tell compelling stories.
