Ruth Druart is a historical fiction author who grew up on the Isle of Wight. As a child, she spent many days reading and swimming on the beach, which remain her favorite pastimes as an adult. Druart was a teacher before she became a full-time author, teaching at Marymount International School and getting her master's degree in International Education. The themes she focused on during her studies would later become central to her debut novel, "Paris Slept."
Druart has always been fascinated by people and personalities, which led her to study psychology at Leicester University. Her interest in creating characters and exploring what it means to be human is evident in her writing, as she enjoys putting characters in difficult situations where their morality is tested and adding a twist. After studying, Druart moved to Paris, where she discovered the rich and troubled past of the city, which inspired her to write. She now runs a writing group in Paris and has completed a Masters in International Education, focusing on Third Culture Kids and their sense of belonging.
"While Paris Slept," Druart's debut novel, is set during the occupation of Paris, and her second novel, "The Last Hours in Paris," is about a German soldier billeted to Paris during the occupation. Druart was inspired to write "The Last Hours in Paris" by her Great Uncle Wolfgang, one of the main characters being a German soldier billeted in Paris during the occupation. Druart enjoys writing about people and families, and her novels are not about the war, but about the characters and their experiences during that time. She likes to write characters who are flawed and who do the wrong things for the right reasons, making her novels a compelling read.
