Andrea K. Höst is an Australian science fiction and fantasy author who was born in Sweden but currently resides in Sydney. She enjoys spending her time in nature, tending to her garden full of weeds, and indulging in her hobbies of gaming and writing. Höst is particularly drawn to science fiction and fantasy works that take a “zero-difference” perspective on issues of sexuality, race, and gender, and is known for her immersive stories set in fantastical worlds.
Despite her busy schedule, which includes a day job and battling Sydney traffic, Höst has managed to publish more than fifteen novels, with six series to her name. She first gained recognition for her “Touchstone Trilogy,” which she launched with the novel “Stray” in 2011. Before finding success as a self-published author, Höst had a frustrating experience trying to publish traditionally, which led her to step back from the process and focus on writing for fun. She began writing a fiction blog in the diary format, which she found to be a refreshing change from traditional conventions. When a young fan of the genre expressed her enthusiasm for Höst’s writing, the author knew she had something special and decided to publish her debut novel, “Champion of the Rose,” in 2010.
Andrea K. Höst has made a name for herself in the fantasy genre, with her novels “The Silence of Medair” and “And All the Stars” both finalists for the Aurealis Awards in 2010 and 2012, respectively. She has also won the Aurealis Award for Best Fantasy Novella in 2016 for her work “Forfeit.” In addition to her fantasy writing, Höst occasionally publishes romance novels under the name Karan K. Anders. Despite her success, Höst remains humble and committed to her craft, continuing to create immersive worlds and compelling characters for her readers to enjoy.
