Con Lehane is an American mystery writer who is best known for his 42nd Street Library Mysteries and the Brian McNulty series. Lehane is actually a pen name for Cornelius Lehane, who grew up in the suburbs of New York City. He currently resides in Washington D.C., where he writes full-time and teaches fiction writing and mystery writing at The Writer’s Center in Bethesda, Maryland.
Lehane has a rich and varied background that has informed his writing. He holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in fiction writing from Columbia University School of the Arts. Prior to his career as a writer, Lehane worked as a college professor, union organizer, labor journalist, and bartender. He has worked at two-dozen or so drinking establishments, which has provided him with a wealth of material for his Brian McNulty mystery series.
Lehane's writing credits include three books in the Brian McNulty mystery series, with the third novel being "Death at the Old Hotel." He has also published three books in the 42nd Street Library series, with the latest being "Murder Off the Page." This series features Raymond Ambler, the curator of the 42nd Street Library’s (fictional) crime fiction collection and consulting detective. In addition to his novels, Lehane has published stories in Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine and Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine.
