David Rosenfelt is a successful American author, particularly known for his mystery and thriller novels. He is best known for his series of books featuring the fictional character Andy Carpenter, who shares many similarities with Rosenfelt himself. Carpenter is described as a dog-loving attorney, much like Rosenfelt was before he became a full-time writer.
Rosenfelt was born and raised in Paterson, New Jersey, and graduated from NYU. He had a successful career in the movie business, eventually becoming the President of Marketing for Tri-Star Pictures. However, after many years in the industry, he decided to leave and try his hand at writing. He started by writing and selling feature films and TV movies, but it wasn't until he wrote his first novel, "Open and Shut," that he found his true calling. His second novel, "First Degree," was named a best book of 2003 by Publishers Weekly.
In addition to his writing career, Rosenfelt is also a dedicated dog rescue advocate. He and his wife founded the Tara Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing and finding homes for dogs in need. The foundation is named after their own beloved Golden Retriever, Tara, and has rescued over 4,000 dogs to date. Rosenfelt and his wife currently share their home with 35 dogs, all of whom are rescues. He continues to write and rescue dogs, combining his two passions in a way that brings joy to him and many others.
