Devin Murphy is an accomplished American author, well-known for his work in historical and literary fiction. He has had his work featured in over sixty publications, including The Missouri Review, Glimmer Train, and Confrontation. A number of his fictional works have also been included in more than forty anthologies and literary journals.
Born and raised in a small town near Buffalo, New York, Murphy comes from a family with Dutch roots. He pursued his higher education with determination, earning a BA/MA degree from St. Bonaventure University, an MFA degree from the University of Colorado State, and a PhD from Nebraska University in Lincoln. This extensive education prepared him for a successful career in academia, where he now serves as an Associate Professor at Bradley University, teaching creative writing.
In addition to his work in education, Murphy has also had a varied and adventurous work history. He has worked at multiple national parks throughout the country and spent three years working at sea, allowing him to travel to over fifty countries across all seven continents. These experiences have undoubtedly influenced his writing, providing him with a wealth of material to draw from.
Murphy is perhaps best known for his novel, "The Boat Runner," which was published by Harper Collins and has received critical acclaim. He is also the author of "Tiny Americans" and has a third book, "Unbend the River," due to be released in January of 2024. He currently resides in Chicago, Illinois with his wife and their three children.
