Douglas Schofield is a successful author of thriller novels, who has earned degrees in History and Law. He has worked as a trial lawyer in Canada, Bermuda, and the Cayman Islands, where he prosecuted and defended hundreds of cases of serious crime, and conducted complex cross-border litigation. Schofield's career as a trial lawyer spanned over three decades, during which he gained extensive experience in handling cases related to murder and sexual assault. In 2013, he returned to private practice, and in 2018, he retired from his legal career to become a full-time writer.
Schofield is best known for his thriller novels, including "Flight Risks," "Succession," and "Time of Departure". He has also written multiple screenplays and a true crime book alongside former undercover officer Giovanni Rocco. Although Schofield dabbled in creative writing for many years, "Flight Risks" was his first completed novel-length manuscript, which he completed in 2002. The original manuscript went through several revisions and sat untouched in a drawer for several years before it was picked up by a small publishing house in England. Schofield's writing has received critical acclaim, with his novels being described as "fast-paced snappy thrillers" and "better than ice cream". He is currently working on his fourth novel, "Sorrow's Heir," for St. Martin's Press.
Schofield was raised and educated in British Columbia, where he earned degrees in History and Law. He and his wife, Melody, live on Grand Cayman, along with their highly intelligent talking cat, Juno, who kindly permits them to share his home. In his free time, Schofield enjoys spending time with his wife and cat, as well as pursuing his creative writing and screenwriting projects.
