Edward Rutherfurd

Edward Rutherfurd is a well-known English author who writes historical fiction under the pen name Francis Edward Wintle. He was born in the city of Salisbury and received his education at Cambridge University and Stanford Business School. After attempting a career in political research, bookselling, and publishing, Rutherfurd decided to focus on his passion for writing. His first novel, Sarum, was the result of this newfound dedication, and it became an instant international bestseller.

Rutherfurd's novels are known for their length and depth, often exceeding 500 pages and covering extensive periods of history. His writing has been translated into 20 languages, and he has gained a loyal following of readers around the world. His books are meticulously researched, providing a detailed and engaging portrayal of the social history of the places and times they cover. In addition to Sarum, Rutherfurd has written Russka, a novel about Russia, London, The Forest, set in England's New Forest, and two novels about Ireland, Dublin and Ireland Awakening.

Rutherfurd is a life member of several organizations, including the Friends of Salisbury Cathedral, the Salisbury Civic Society, and the Friends of Chawton House. He is also a patron of the National Theatre of Ireland (the Abbey Theatre) in Dublin. In 2005, the City of Salisbury commemorated his services to the city by naming a street after him, "Rutherfurd Walk". Rutherfurd currently spends his time between Europe and North America.
