J.M. Hall

J.M. Hall is a pseudonym of the author Jon Hall, who is best known for his debut novel "A Spoonful of Murder." Hall is a writer, playwright, and deputy head of a primary school. His plays have been performed in theaters across the UK and on BBC Radio 4.

Hall was born in Yorkshire and has spent most of his life in the county, except for a few brief interludes. He has been writing for stage and radio for many years, with his latest critically acclaimed BBC radio series "Trust" starring Julie Hesmondhalgh. This series was inspired by his long-time career as deputy headmaster of a northern primary school. Primary teaching has always been a significant part of his life, and he is proud to have maintained his ability to run a slick painting table throughout his writing career.

In 2021, Hall's first novel, "A Spoonful of Murder," was published by Harper Collins. The novel features an unlikely crime-solving trio of retired teachers named Liz, Thelma, and Pat. These warm and funny characters quickly became popular and led to a series of cozy crime novels. The second novel in the series is due in March 2023, and the third is already in progress. When he is not writing, Hall enjoys engaging in practical activities such as organizing a playground rota or marking a pile of books to take his mind off the challenges of creativity.
