J.Y. Yang

JY Yang, also known as Neon Yang, is a highly accomplished and prolific Singaporean author. Yang has been creating a vast body of work for several years, which includes both series and standalone novels. These works are largely based in the subgenre of silkpunk, which is a blend of science-fiction and fantasy elements, drawing inspiration from East Asian traditions and cultures. This has allowed Yang to establish a unique niche within the genre, creating rich and imaginative landscapes that are both fantastical and grounded in real-world history and traditions.

Yang's work has received significant recognition and critical acclaim. They have been shortlisted for numerous awards, including the Hugo, Nebula, World Fantasy, Lambda Literary, and Locus awards. In addition, their Tensorate series of novellas, published by Tor.com Publishing, has been particularly well-received. The first two novellas in the series, "The Red Threads of Fortune" and "The Black Tides of Heaven," were named to the Tiptree Honor List in 2018. Overall, Yang's work has been praised for its imaginative storytelling, compelling characters, and unique perspective on East Asian culture.

In addition to their work as an author, Yang has had a diverse and varied career. They have worked as a molecular biologist, writer for animation, comics and games, a science communicator, and a journalist for one of Singapore’s national papers. These experiences have no doubt informed Yang's writing, providing them with a wealth of knowledge and expertise to draw upon.
