Jack Whyte

Jack Whyte is a Scottish-Canadian novelist, renowned for his historical fiction novels. He is the author of the Camulod Chronicles, also known as the Legends of Camelot, the Knights Templar Trilogy, and the Guardians Trilogy. Whyte was born in Scotland and raised there, receiving his education in England and France before moving to Canada in 1967, where he has since resided. His novels have been translated into over a dozen languages and are read worldwide. He is married and has five grown children, and currently lives in British Columbia.

Whyte was born on January 01, 1939, in Johnstone, Renfrewshire, Scotland, UK and passed away in February 2021. He was a popular novelist of the historical fiction, fantasy, and science fiction genres. His major work is the A Dream of Eagles series, known as the Camulod Chronicles in the United States and elsewhere. This series of historical novels presents the tale of King Arthur set against the backdrop of Roman Britain, offering a unique retelling of the popular legend that eschews the use of magic and instead relies on historical conditions to support the theory that Arthur was meant to counter the anarchy left by the Roman departure from Britain. Whyte incorporates both traditional Arthurian names, places, and events, as well as historical figures that have been suggested as being the possible basis for the original King Arthur legend.

In addition to his work as a novelist, Whyte also served as the official bard of The Calgary Highlanders and performed several tracks of poetry and song on the 1990 recording by the Regimental Pipes and Drums of The Calgary Highlanders entitled Eighty Years of Glory: The Regimental Pipes, Drums and Bard of The Calgary Highlanders. Whyte's successful series of historical adventures also include "The Knights Templar Trilogy," set in 12th- 13th- and 14th-Century France, and the current "Guardians" series, (re-titled as "The Bravehearts Chronicle" in Britain), which deals with 14th-Century Scotland during the Wars of Independence and features the Scots heroes of those wars: William Wallace, Robert the Bruce and Sir James the Black Douglas. A million-plus bestselling author in Canada, Whyte's works are widely translated into more than a dozen languages and have won him a large and faithful following wherever they appear.
