Jamel Brinkley

Jamel Brinkley is a highly acclaimed American author, best known for his short story collections and his standalone novel, "Night is One Long Everlasting." He was born and raised in Brooklyn and the Bronx, New York, and his writing is heavily influenced by his urban upbringing. Brinkley is a member of the Callaloo Creative Writing Workshop and a Kimbilio Fellow, which are both prestigious organizations that support and develop emerging writers.

Brinkley's writing has been widely recognized for its excellence. His short story collection, "A Lucky Man," was a finalist for the 2018 National Book Award for fiction. His work has also been featured in several esteemed literary publications, including The Best American Short Stories 2018, The Threepenny Review, American Short Fiction, and Ploughshares. Brinkley has been awarded scholarships from the Napa Valley Writers’ Conference, the Tin House Writers’ Workshop, and the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference, which have all helped to support his writing career.

In addition to his short story collections, Brinkley is also currently working on a novel titled "Night is One Long Everlasting." He was a recent graduate of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop and was also the 2016-17 Carol Houck Smith Fiction Fellow at the Wisconsin Institute for Creative Writing.
