James L. Cambias is a talented author, game designer, and New Orleanian, who was born on September 11, 1966, in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he also grew up. Despite his current residence in New England, he continues to regard New Orleans as his true home.
From a young age, Cambias had a passion for science fiction, and at the age of fourteen, he decided that he wanted to become a science fiction writer. Although he failed to beat Isaac Asimov's record of publishing his first story before the age of fifteen, he remained determined to achieve his dream. After receiving his education at the University of Chicago, he began his writing career by working for a couple of publishers and becoming a freelance roleplaying game writer. In 2005, he co-founded Zygote Games, where he aimed to create educational games that were both fun and engaging.
Cambias's dedication to his craft paid off in 2014 when Tor Books published his first novel, A Darkling Sea. The following year, he released his second book, Corsair, with Tor. His next novel, Arkad's World, is set to be published by Baen Books in 2019. Throughout his career, Cambias has proven himself to be a versatile and accomplished writer, skillfully blending his love of science fiction with his expertise in game design.
