Webster was born near San Francisco and brought up in various countries, including the UK, Germany, and Italy. He pursued a degree in Arabic and Islamic History at the University of Oxford and later worked as an editor at the BBC World Service for several years. After becoming a full-time writer, he moved to Spain, where he currently resides with his wife, Salud, a flamenco dancer, and their two sons. They divide their time between Valencia and the UK.
