Jay Shetty is a British author, storyteller, and former monk who has made it his mission to make wisdom go viral. He has created over 400 viral videos that have garnered more than 5 billion views and hosts the number one Health and Wellness podcast in the world, "On Purpose." Shetty's vision is to share the timeless wisdom of the world in an accessible, relevant, and practical way. His debut book, "Think Like A Monk," is a training manual on how to live a life of purpose and peace.\n \nBorn in north London in 1987, Shetty was raised in a middle-class Indian family. As a young boy, he was shy, introverted, and bullied for being overweight and nerdy. When he started secondary school, he began playing sports and became more popular, but his thrill-seeking ventures got him suspended from school more than once. By the time he got to college at Cass Business School in London in 2007, Shetty had shifted his curiosity in more productive directions. He was reading autobiographies of successful people and trying to understand the roots of success and making a difference in the world.\n \nIn 2010, after graduating from college, Shetty traded his suits for robes, shaved his head, and moved to an ashram in India, where he slept on the floor and lived out of a gym locker. Half the day was spent on personal growth, meditating for hours and studying ancient scriptures. The rest of the time was spent helping others. After three years as a monk in ashrams in London and Mumbai, one of his teachers told him that he would have more impact on the world if he left the monk's path to share his experience and wisdom with others. This advice was crushing, but Shetty took it to heart and moved back home to north London with his parents. He reconnected with old school friends and began coaching them on well-being, purpose, and mindfulness. Jay's intention was to share wisdom with more people so they would see there were other people out there like them, and it would make a difference.
