Joe Abercrombie

Joe Abercrombie is an accomplished English author, particularly known for his fantasy novels. He is best known for his series, The First Law trilogy, which are all set in the same universe. Prior to his career as a novelist, Abercrombie worked as a freelance film editor.

Abercrombie was born in Lancaster, England and received his education at Lancaster Royal Grammar School. He went on to study psychology at Manchester University. After his time in university, he moved into television production and later became a freelance film editor. It was during a break between film editing jobs that Abercrombie began writing his first novel, The Blade Itself, which he completed in 2004 and was published in 2006. The Blade Itself was the first book in The First Law trilogy, followed by Before They Are Hanged and Last Argument of Kings.

In addition to his work as a novelist, Abercrombie has also contributed to the BBC Worlds of Fantasy series. He has lived and worked in London with his wife and daughter, but has since moved to Bath, Somerset where he currently resides with his family. Alongside his writing, Abercrombie continues to work as a freelance film editor, focusing on documentaries and live music events.
