John Ajvide Lindqvist is a renowned author from Sweden, known for his horror and mystery novels as well as short stories. He was born on December 2, 1968, in Blackeberg, a suburb of Stockholm, where he spent most of his childhood. As a teenager, Lindqvist would often perform magic tricks for tourists on Vasterlanggatan. Before establishing himself as a published author, he worked as a stand-up comedian and magician for twelve years.
Lindqvist's debut novel, "Let the Right One In," was a romantic and social realistic horror story featuring vampires. Written in Swedish, it was later translated into English and published under the title "Let the Right One In" in 2004. The novel was a massive success in Sweden and other countries where it was released. Following this success, Lindqvist published his second book, "Handling the Undead," in 2005, which dealt with the zombies that rose from the dead. In 2006, he published his third book, a short story collection. His next story was released as a serial in one of the Swedish newspapers, Dagens Nyheter, in 2007. Most of Lindqvist's works are published by the Ordfront publication and have been translated into multiple foreign languages, including English, German, Chinese, Danish, Italian, Polish, Russian, Spanish, French, Dutch, Hindi, Bulgarian, and Czech.
In addition to writing fiction novels, Lindqvist also has an interest in writing screenplays. He has written the script for a drama series for the Sveriges Television, known as Kommissionen, and the screenplay for the film adaptation of his debut book. The film rights based on his second book were acquired by the Tre Vanner production company, but the film remains unmade due to tensions between Lindqvist and the production. Lindqvist eventually sold the rights to another company in 2012.
