Joseph R. Garber was an American author, best known for his thriller novels and his articles on technology for Forbes magazine. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and moved frequently during his childhood as the son of a military officer. Garber attended the University of Virginia but left to join the U.S. Army, eventually graduating from East Tennessee State University in 1968 with a degree in philosophy.
After completing his education, Garber worked for AT&T as a business long-distance consultant and a writer for the AT&T in-house magazine. He then spent a decade working as a consultant for Booz Allen Hamilton while writing fiction and non-fiction pieces in his spare time. After a prolonged flu, Garber quit his job and relocated to Woodside, California, where he worked as a consultant and wrote for Forbes Magazine.
Garber became a published novelist in 1990 with the publication of his first novel, "Rascal Money." His second book, "Vertical Run," became an international bestseller in 1995. Before his death in 2005, he had written a total of four standalone novels, including "In a Perfect State" and "Whirlwind." Garber's writing is known for its thrilling and fast-paced plots, often set against the backdrop of corporate America.
In addition to his work as a novelist, Garber was also a respected writer for Forbes Magazine, where he covered technology and other business topics. He passed away in May of 2005 due to a heart attack.
