Judy Blume

Judy Blume is a highly acclaimed American author, well-known for her novels in the young adult and children's fiction genres. She was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, and spent her childhood creating stories in her head. As an adult, she began writing her stories down, which led to the creation of many beloved titles, including 'Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret,' 'Blubber,' 'Just as Long as We're Together,' and the five-book series about the unforgettable Fudge. Blume has also written three novels for adults, all of which became New York Times bestsellers.

Blume's work has been translated into thirty-one languages, and more than 80 million copies of her books have been sold worldwide. She is renowned for her honesty and her ability to address the anxieties and fears of her readers, particularly in relation to topics such as teen sex, masturbation, birth control, menstruation, and death. Despite facing criticism from some quarters, Blume has remained a frank and forthright writer, earning praise from her many loyal readers.

In addition to her writing, Blume is also a passionate advocate for intellectual freedom and has worked tirelessly to protect the freedom to read. She has been involved in numerous organizations dedicated to this cause, including the National Coalition Against Censorship, of which she is a founding trustee and current board member. Blume has received numerous awards and recognitions for her work, including the Margaret A. Edwards Award for Lifetime Achievement from the American Library Association and the Library of Congress Living Legends Award.

Blume is the founder and trustee of The Kids Fund, a charitable and educational foundation, and serves on the boards of the Author's Guild, the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, and the Key West Literary Seminar.
