Kate Heartfield

Kate Heartfield is a highly accomplished Canadian author, well-known for her works in the fantasy, science fiction, and horror genres. She was born in Kitchener, Ontario, and spent her formative years in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Heartfield pursued higher education and earned a political science degree from the University of Ottawa and a Master of Journalism from Carleton University.

Heartfield's career as a journalist followed her academic pursuits, and she eventually transitioned into teaching journalism at Carleton University. In addition to her work as a novelist, Heartfield has also authored nonfiction pieces and worked as an editor. Her fiction works span various media, including novels, novellas, short stories, and interactive fiction.

Heartfield's notable works include "The Embroidered Book," a historical fantasy novel, and "Assassin's Creed: The Magus Conspiracy," both published in 2022. Her time travel novellas, "Alice Payne Arrives" and "Alice Payne Rides," were published in 2018 and 2019, respectively. Heartfield's debut novel, "Armed in Her Fashion," won Canada's Aurora Award in 2018. Her interactive fiction projects, "The Road to Canterbury" and "The Magician's Workshop," were both shortlisted for the Nebula Award in game writing.

Heartfield's short stories have been featured in several renowned publications, including "Strange Horizons," "Lackington's," "Podcastle," and others. Her works have been shortlisted for numerous awards, including the Nebula, Locus, Aurora, Sunburst, and Crawford awards, and her journalism has been recognized with a National Newspaper Award. Heartfield currently resides in Canada and continues to write and publish her works.
