Katherine Arden is a rising American author, recognized for her fiction and fantasy novels. She is best known for her work on the Winternight Trilogy series. Arden was born in Austin, Texas, and spent her junior year of high school in Rennes, France. After her graduation, she deferred her enrollment to Middlebury College in Vermont for a year, choosing instead to live and study in Moscow. Her love for literature, particularly French and Russian, led her to specialize in these subjects during her time at Middlebury, where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree.\n \nAfter obtaining her degree, Arden moved to Maui, Hawaii, where she worked a variety of odd jobs, including writing grants, serving as a tour guide, and making crepes. During her 12-month stay on the island, she began writing fantasy novels. Her interest in the genre continued to grow, and she decided to dedicate herself to writing many more books. After leaving Maui, Arden spent time in France teaching, before returning to Maui once again. She eventually settled in Vermont, where she currently resides.
