Dr. Kerry Buchanan is a retired veterinary surgeon who spent six happy years at Cambridge University Veterinary School. After working in practice, she was forced to retire early due to arthritis. However, this did not stop her from pursuing other interests. She has since designed leukemia patient databases, researched high-pressure food processing, taught ICT, and run her own livery business. Buchanan is also a full-time carer for her 93-year-old father, who suffers from dementia.
Buchanan began writing fiction in 2014, and since then, she has not stopped. She writes fantasy, science fiction, and crime novels. Her Harvey and Birch crime thriller series, set in Northern Ireland, is published by Joffe Books. Knife Edge and Small Bones, the first two books in the series, have been well-received, and the third book will be published soon. Buchanan's writing is inspired by the beautiful views of hills and lakes from her farm in County Down, where she lives with her family and a menagerie of animals.
Buchanan has been lucky enough to win an ACNI SIAP award in 2019 and a second ACNI award in the summer of 2020. Her short stories are widely published, including The Armada Tree, which won Kraxon Magazine's Story of the Year Award (2019). She is now beginning to submit some of her novels for publication. Her first crime novel, Knife Edge, will be published by Joffe Books in 2021.
