Mariko Tamaki is a highly accomplished writer, hailing from Toronto, Canada. She is known for her work as a writer, playwright, activist, and performer. Tamaki has worked with various groups, including the fat activist group Pretty Porky and Pissed Off and the theatre troupe TOA. Her writing has been well-received, with her novel "Cover Me" (McGilligan Books) gaining significant attention. She has also published a short fiction collection titled "True Lies: The Book of Bad Advice" (Women's Press) and has a third book, "FAKE ID," due out in spring 2005.
Tamaki has performed her work across Canada and the United States, appearing at various festivals, including the Calgary Folkfest 2004, Vancouver Writer's Festival 2003, Spatial III, and the Perpetual Motion/Girls Bite Back Tour. She has also made appearances on radio and television programs, including "First Person Singular" on CBC radio and "Imprint" on TVO. Currently, Tamaki is pursuing a master's degree in women's studies at York University.
In addition to her earlier works, Tamaki is also an accomplished writer of comics and prose. She has written graphic novels such as "Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up With Me," with Rosemary Valero O’Connell, "Harley Quinn: Breaking Glass," with Steve Pugh, "Skim," and "This One Summer," with Jillian Tamaki. Tamaki's work has earned her numerous awards and accolades, including Doug Wright, Eisner and Ignatz Awards, as well as Caldecott and Printz Honors. She has worked with various publishers, including Marvel, DC Comics, Abrams, Dark Horse, and Boom Studios, on a range of superhero-related projects.
