Mark Chadbourn is a highly acclaimed horror and science-fiction author, who has won the British Fantasy Award twice in his career. Born and raised in the English Midlands within a mining community, Chadbourn developed an interest in storytelling from a young age. After completing his university education with a degree in Economic History from Leeds, he became a successful journalist, writing for some of the UK's most prestigious national newspapers. His first short story won the Best New Author award from Fear magazine, which led him to quit journalism and focus on his passion for writing.
Chadbourn's work is known for transcending genre boundaries, with a particular emphasis on supernatural and fantasy themes. His debut novel, Underground, is a supernatural thriller set in the coalfields of his youth, which drew from his personal experiences growing up in a mining community. Since then, he has become a bestselling author, with his epic and imaginative novels published in numerous countries around the world. In addition to his successful career as a novelist, Chadbourn has also established himself as a screenwriter, with many hours of produced work for British television. He is currently developing new shows for the UK and US markets.
Chadbourn's expertise in British folklore and mythology is evident in his writing, and he has held several varied and colorful jobs in the past, including independent record company boss, band manager, production line worker, engineer's 'mate,' and media consultant. He has traveled extensively around the world but has since settled in a rambling house in the middle of a forest near where he was born. Chadbourn is also known by his historical fiction pseudonym James Wilde, under which he has published several successful novels. He currently divides his time between London and New York, two cities he loves.
