Sharon Creech is a highly acclaimed American author, best known for her children's novels. She was born on July 29, 1945, in South Euclid, Ohio, and grew up with her parents, Arvel and Ann, and her siblings, Sandy, Doug, Tom, and Dennis. Creech spent a significant amount of time in Quincy, Kentucky, at her cousins' farm, which would later become the setting for many of her books.
Creech's love for storytelling began in college, where she took writing and literature courses. She later became a teacher in England and Switzerland, where she honed her skills in storytelling, plot, characterization, and point of view. Creech's early writing career focused on novels for adults, but she later turned her attention to young adult literature. Her first book for young adults, Absolutely Normal Chaos, was published in 1990. Since then, she has written numerous novels, including Walk Two Moons, Chasing Redbird, Bloomability, and Love That Dog.
Creech's work has received numerous accolades, including the Newbery Medal for Walk Two Moons and the Carnegie Medal for Ruby Holler. She is the first author to win both the Newbery and Carnegie Medals.
