Stephen Frey is an American author who is well-known for his thriller and suspense novels. Many of his works are centered around the financial world, showcasing his expertise and experience in the field. In addition to his writing career, Frey is also a managing director at a private equity firm in Florida.
Frey has written a total of 18 novels, with his latest political thriller, "Arctic Fire," published by Thomas & Mercer in 2012. The sequel to "Arctic Fire," entitled "Red Cell Seven," was released in 2014. Frey's novels often follow the activities of Red Cell Seven, a top-secret intelligence group that funds itself entirely with private sector money and has no formal reporting responsibilities to the United States government.
Before becoming a successful author, Frey had a career in finance. He worked in the mergers and acquisitions department at J.P. Morgan's New York City office and later moved to Washington, D.C. to work in the private equity business at Winston Partners. At Winston, he led investments into and chaired three of the firm's portfolio companies.
Frey's first 14 novels, including "The Takeover," "The Vulture Fund," and "The Inner Sanctum," were all set in the worlds of high-level finance and national politics. However, in recent years, Frey has decided to change the theme of his novels. While they still have a financial focus, the backdrop has shifted from Wall Street to more global settings. For example, "Hell's Gate," published in 2009, is set in Montana and involves forest fires. Frey currently lives in southwest Florida with his wife, Diana.
