Steve Gannon is a bestselling author, known for his thriller, suspense, and science fiction novels. He is particularly famous for writing the Kane series of novels. Gannon was born in the United States and was the eldest of four siblings. His father served in the US Navy as a captain, causing the family to move around frequently during Gannon's childhood. He lived in various places, including Rhode Island, North Carolina, and Virginia, where his father took a job at the Pentagon for the remainder of his career. Gannon completed his high school education in Falls Church, Virginia, and went on to earn a degree in Physics from the USC.
After completing his undergraduate education, Gannon worked as a systems engineer in the Southern California aerospace industry and then returned to UCLA for graduate work, earning a DDS degree four years later. He passed the California Dental Board exam and prepared to begin a new career as a dentist. However, Gannon had his first identity crisis and decided to open a dental office on the Westside of town while also pursuing other interests.
During the years he practiced dentistry in Brentwood, Gannon got his Screen Actors Guild card and acted in TV commercials, promoting various products. He also modeled in a worldwide print campaign for Camel cigarettes before the famous R.J. Reynolds cartoon "Joe Camel" took over the cigarette advertising reins. Gannon continued to write fiction, and upon retiring from dentistry in his mid-thirties, he spent a decade as a real-estate developer specializing in beachfront construction in Malibu. He also served as executive director for an Idaho nonprofit that promotes classical music concerts and presents various educational programs.
Gannon's first full novel, "A Song for the Asking," was published by Bantam Books and received critical and reader acclaim. The book was inspired by the question: "Can a homicide detective who deals with the worst of human nature go home to a normal family life?" Gannon has continued the "Kane Novel" series with bestsellers such as "Kane" and "Allison." He divides his time between Italy and Idaho, living in two of the most beautiful places on earth. In Idaho, he spends his days skiing, whitewater kayaking, and writing, while in Italy, he enjoys the Italian people, food, history, culture, and learns the Italian language. Gannon is married to concert pianist Susan Spelius Gannon.
