Susan Grossey is a highly respected English author, best known for her series of books featuring Sam Plank, which delve into money laundering and financial crime stories. These stories are based on historical accounts of financial misconduct, taking place in the Regency period of 1820s London, England.
Born in Germany, Grossey moved to England and earned her English degree from Cambridge University in 1987. After graduating, she spent two years teaching English at a secondary school. However, she became disillusioned with the educational system, finding that the curriculum stifled creativity among teachers. As a result, Grossey transitioned to a career as a technical author, reaching great heights in this field and even documenting the workings of a choc-ice wrapping machine in Cardiff while wearing a blue hairnet.
Grossey eventually moved on from technical writing to technical training, where she was tasked with creating a staff manual on fraud prevention. While working on this project, she discovered a passion for the topic of money laundering and decided to focus her career on this subject. Since 1998, Grossey has been self-employed as an anti-money laundering consultant, providing training, strategic advice, and writing policies and procedures for clients in many countries.
Alongside her non-fiction work, Grossey has also written several fiction books centered around financial crime. In her spare time, she immerses herself in the world of Regency London, where she has created a series of seven historical financial crime novels featuring magistrate's constable Sam Plank. The fourth book in the series, "Portraits of Pretence," won the "Book of the Year 2017" award from Discovering Diamonds, while the fifth book, "Faith, Hope and Trickery," was shortlisted for the Selfies Award 2019. Grossey has also begun a new five-book series set in Cambridge in the 1820s, narrated by a university constable named Gregory Hardiman.
